I played my own prized copy, of this mid-tempo delight at The "V" Lounge in Bambury last Sunday, to an appreciative knowledgeable, in that cozy soul-hideaway it sounded completely awesome.

Willie Wade the man behind a true Northern Soul anthem, when he sang and crafted The Jades "I'm Where It's At", today considered one of the NS Hall Of Fame greats. On this "Nite Life" session we find Willie in a totally different mood. How about this scintillating mid-tempo delicacy of Crossover Northern Soul.

The two recordings could not be further apart more distant poles apart. But isn't that the irresistible allure o Northern Soul, no stone unturned, no style overlooked or ignored. A scene driven by so many differing tastes the best of each genre bubbling up to the top, meeting welcoming minds and open arms.

"When Push Comes To Shove" having notes of Little Anthony at his peak, a considerate arrangement involving a cooing male group cradling those pleading words. Simplistic piano pulses lifting it into another dimension. Whether it be blisters on your feet and palms that excites you, you can't dismiss the dancefloor inner calm of gliding through Crossover Soul at it's very finest.. emotionally absorbing, as you lose yourself in its pleading, hopefulness.

Crossover Northern Soul? Right up there jostling with Chuck Cockerham, James Phelps for pole position of the greatest Crossover tunes ever...

The flipside "Come Into My World " is also an outstanding NS mover, but pales in comparison "When Push Comes To Shove" that just knocks it way out the park... for me, "Push Comes To Shove" is one of the greatest 60's Soulful "gliders" of all time.

But I still dream of finding another Jades - I'm Where It's At - on my travels one day...
