Description

No. 109 is, in my opinion Abe Epsteins' finest creation for his now iconic San Antonio imprint. Dynamic Records is so revered, every one of its 23 single 45 releases highly collectable and sought-after.

No. 109 for me offers no only the best and rarest vocal group Northern Soul experience, it does it twice over with the beseeching "Don't Ever Hurt Me" balanced up against the equally impressive horn-loaded, harmony cruiser "Little Girl Blue"

Two "killers" on one disc both benefitting from the unique vocal of Willie Cooper that gave up and unusual blend of edgy emotion, a soft rasping that accentuates his powerful soaring falsetto, this incredible vocal was complimented by his writing prowess with help from his neighbor and group stalwart Marshall Boxley.

On side one, "Cooper's" spectacular vocal is perfectly framed as he effortless ascends from one pleading phrase to the next. Reinforced by Abe's studio band blasting out their signature Tex-Mex horns that featured in so many of Epstein's productions. The combination is truly breathtaking Northern Soul, underlining my opinion, yes this is The Webs and Willie Cooper's finest recording session.

Flip it over for the exquisite "Little Girl Blue". The Webs dampen the pace down a tad but lift the harmony togetherness up a few notches, a slick slow-burner that at times I prefer to hear, depending on my mood.

A 45 with two equally sumptuous performances of top-drawer Northern Soul, that rarely comes to market.

Condition Report

Two clean labels, Sheldon stamped vinyl gives up full gloss mint minus vinyl. A real beauty! do not pass by, encountering another copy as clean as this may never happen.
