Description

Description

From the prolific pen of Charles Singleton comes another moving, poetic Northern Soul delight that rarely surfaces for sale, easily Wayne Anthony's rarest 45 and by far his best!

Benefiting from a typically potent horn section guided by Horace Ott, his soaring fanfare of brass sympathetically accompanies Wayne's young heartbroken parting pleas. Moving even the most unfeeling dancer to absorb themselves deep into his poorly disguised despair.

What a tune!! A long time since I've heard it, and boy a wonderful treat it is. I just adore the maturity of Wayne's 13 year old voice and its contrast against the power of Otis Blackwell's thumpin' production and Horace's seamless horn section coating the session. I consider if this 45 wasn't so elusive it would have grown to become one the most popular dancefloor plays this century. As it is, too few DJ's can boast a copy to blanket the scene, but it will rise again... bigger than ever, distilled quality never dies...

Flip it over to witness again the formidable pairing of Otis Blackwell & Horace Ott with a flipside that takes on a different attitude, giving up a surging Northern Soul stomper; complete with a full vocal group backing, pushing through the wall of horns and frantic drumming. A relentless, Big City attack on the senses, standout mid-sixties dancer proper real-deal classic style Northern Soul allniter fuel, guaranteed to sweep you off your feet.

Two fabulous tunes on one disc, Wayne's finest and most wanted.

Where did Wayne disappear to after 1966 when he stopped releasing 45's? He dedicated himself to Gospel singing in California. Until he was head-hunted by that most-soulful of international singing stars Paul Anka. Who started him off on a most successful singing career as a backing singer to the stars. Great voices always break back through, and Wayne certainly has one of those memorable naturally beseeching vocals that stays with you.

Take another listen to "Blow Me a Kiss" this too will bounce back through to NS stardom...
