The vocal-group sound of Philadelphia!

With the hot summer of 1967 to inspire the creators. The top side written by the gifted Eddie Holman the equally captivating flipside written by Soul-Sister prodigy Barbara Mason, both sides arranged by the prolific Luther Randolph; produced by one of the finest 60's production teams ever assembled. Johnny Stiles, Luther Randolph and Weldon McDougal III, the foundations of Harthon productions. A combination that encapsulated the very essence of the 60's Northern Soul sound.

Incorporating the rich voice of Bernard Williams on lead, Harold Melvin, Donald Broody warbling in the background, this lone 45 for "The Victors" was 100% Philly. 100% "Harthon" as both productions ripple with their signature upbeat dance arrangement, "whopping" background vocals, rebounding off heavy bassline pulses, lifted by rhythmic Teddy P. style percussion . "Hurt" just oozes everything a superior Northern Soul record represents. Inspiring dance, driven by a perfect 4 beats to the bar invitation to dance, polished by buttery male vocal harmonies. As good as it gets Philadelphia dance-soul.

The flipside for me is every note as impressive, Barbara Masons plaintive way ahead of her young years, are again driven by the irresistible ingredients of the Harthon trademark.

Which ever side you prefer, I change my mind every time I play them, both sides give up 1967 vocal group Northern Soul at its most seductive..
