New York Soul dancer produced on the very cusp of that city’s disco-explosion. A truly wondrous slab of Crossover Soul that suffered from that seismic shift in Black music style, that buried all real-deal Soul dance productions under an avalanche of commerciality.

That definitive year of 1974, witnessed the near extermination of vocal group Soulful dance. The dance sound dominated by electric drums, wah-wah guitars as the disco crowd started to “Bump” and “Hustle” to synchronised rhythms, faster tempos and lush orchestral arrangements.

Lyrics portraying lost-love, despair, pain and heartache were now, so passé ; superior-soulful-shufflers now becoming an endangered species..

But not so in Europe, as appreciation of these decidedly moving grooves became the paramount choice of night-club DJs as Euro-crowd sought an antidote to the more obvious dance productions.

Here is one of the very finest Northern Soul crossover grooves ever made, a masterpiece lost in the midst of the Disco Explosion. Today 45 years later, The Ultimates still gives up that alternative sound, that beckons the Soulful Of Mind directly to the dancefloor.

Dance styles, changes, fads, a la mode, trends, fashions come and go. How refreshing that in depth emotion, woven into dance arrangement has been a constant within the Rare Soul Scene for decades.

This is Modern Soul Crossover at its finest... a style you that will always be so much more that just an inclination to dance.

PS the flipside will alert Sweet Soul scholars the 45 is no “one trick pony”
