A listing for discerning Northern Soul collectors willing to go to the nth degree for completeness - "completeness" we are always thrilled to list and highlight. Rare label variations, odd-ball first presses, different coloured vinyl etc.

In the case of this Los Angeles vocal group Northern Soul double hitter, it's the "impossible" titled, new release promo sleeve that captures our imagination.

Usually a gifted five man gathering includes such L.A. luminaries as Leanard Jewel Smith, Jimmy Conwell, Jackie Lee lus the Colbert Brothers Harry & Paul. A line-up you just know is gonna deliver irresistible Northern Soul, not once but two times over. With both sides steered by top-arranger Arthur Wright and written by James Cleveland. But I feel this group had a slightly different personel to the members listed above, but it's still top-drawer.

Topside is classic style thumping vocal-group Northern Soul, a tune tyat only just missed out during te 70's of becoming a classic as it got "lost" in the avalanche of great discoveries during that fruitful era. Listening to it today it gives up every aspect of real-deal Allniter Northern Soul, Ideal for a surprise drop, that certainly would not interrupt a vibrant dancefloor.

Even though the a-side is classic style NS, for me the gem lies on the flip. As th gathering slow things down and produced a brilliant example of the BIg City Sound, not usually associated with Los Angeles. A big bold meaty production, crammed with emotion. A beseeching lead vocal, soothed by celestial girls calming chorus and muscular but considerate backing.

Beat Ballad Heaven awaits you...

But as weird as it may seen to some less fanatical Northern Soul collectors.. that sleeve is the star of the show. It is only the 2nd. time in my life I've had it for sale, in 50 years of messing around with vinyl.

Rare completeness indeed... a listing for those of you, very serious about collecting Northern Soul.
