Killer 1964 SKA no matter which side you drop the arm on!

29 year old Theo Beckford was already a seasoned influence on Jamaican SKA music by 1964 and it shows in this imposing Beckford composition "Glamour Girl" with strong "accented" Patois singing coming through loud and clear as a bevvy of shrill backing girls in joyous support of his message, Uplifting, powerful SKA dancer, nailed with a fabulous display of Alto Saxophone manipulation. A feel-good experience, indeed.

Flipside is a fabulously inventive "Prince Buster" production by his house band, who never fail but to please, but this is even more "special" than their usual riveting musicianship. this horn saturated instrumental is decorated with relentless bass guitar pulses, brushing of cymbal, persistent percussion bolstered by blasting brass. Culminating in an awesome trumpet intrusion, lifting the session up into SKA brilliance. It is recordings like this that set Jamaican music apart from anything else happening in the world studio recording in the 60's, free-style jamming involving, authoritive masters of their instruments bouncing of each other's enthusiasm. Just completely inspiring instrumental you can't help but want to dance to.

Two top tunes back to back.
