Description

Description

1968 British press nice of these unusual vocal-group cruisers a 1967 production by Donald Scott in Wirl Studios.

Backed by George Tucker & His Orchestra "Penny For Your Sound" is a melodic mid-tempo propelled by insistent guitar pulses chivvying the three harmonizing make vocals along at sublime easiness. The floating simplicity of Valman Smykle, Franklin (A.J.) Spence and David "Scotty" Scott is the attraction, that they duplicate on the flipside with a slow drag harmony version of Jimmy Ruffin's "I've Passed This Way" (before)

Two raw naïve but attractive recordings underlining the influence of "soul" music on Jamaica's artists, as the disguise well know songs stamping their own brand on them, full marks to the 60's Jamaica music scene keeping moving deconstructing familiar sounds.

Personally I'm drawn to unsophisticated, from the heart vocal-group steppers, from the streets of Kingston.

This elusive disc delivers two..!
