Two killer Skinhead Reggae dancers from the golden year of 1969, a pairing of dancefloor fuel, back to back.

Studio One's premier instrumentalists under the stewardship of Clement Dodd; between them they conjure a colossal interpretation of Booker T.'s Memphis classic, featuring spectacularly inventive saxophone manipulation, partitioned by moments of inspired trumpeting, whilst seamless keyboard strokes whip up the perfect Hammond storm. Peppered by a Melodica the whole session takes flight..

Brilliant version! Dare we say, leaving the original version way behind?

Flip over for a reworking of Darryl Carter's Memphis creation that Oscar Toney Jr. and Joe Simon did so well. Dodd and his team make the original source almost unrecognizable as the session adds quirky effects and extra lyrics, so different in fact, that the label cheekily credits "Barry Llewelyn" as the composer.

Two great sides that travel so well from Memphis to Kingston with Studio One retaining a hint of Soul whilst elevating to top-tunes.

Condition Report

name x 2 on label, original push-out removed. Fine clean full gloss near to mint minus playing surface, as you can hear both sides play crisp and clean. BUT NOTE this disc has on the run-in groove a bubble effect on the very edge if both sides, (see image) does NOT run into the playing surface, as you can hear both sides play at least excellent plus after a couple of low-fi thuds on the very first few notes. First class fidelity, with no hint background crackle whatsoever.
