Description

Robert Knight joins the likes of Bessie Banks as an USA artist, robbed of British chart success when an inferior copycat version was stolen from them; and the UK radio stations backed the British version into the charts. Whilst the MODS of 1967 were not fooled by mediocrity and proudly declared they purchased Robert Knight original version of "Everlasting Love". Whilst people who knew no better rocketed the dubious talent called "The Love affair" to the top of the British charts. Relegating Robert Knight to hip coffee bar jukeboxes and the upfront allnight Soul Clubs like the Twisted Wheel, King Mojo, etc.

This 45 "The Power Of Love" was supposed to tip the balance back in Robert Knight favour, but although full of magic, brandishing the same ingredients as "Everlasting Love" it never caught the radio attention or the imagination of the MODS and failed miserably.

That was of course until 1970 when the then burgeoning Northern Soul scene caught onto the capabilities of the flipside "Love On a Mountain Top". I do remember very clearly the impressive Ian Levine interview on Radio One, Ian informing the audience all about the Northern Soul movement and how his quest for finding records that were not played on the radio, non-hit soul records to play in his DJ set at the Blackpool Mecca; and boy was he proud of the fact he was the first to spin "Love On a Mountain Top" and felt personally responsible for its success when it was reissued 26th October 1973, when it became a chart hit and the biggest British Youth Club play for the next 12 months.

Before you today is the original 3rd of May 1968 Promo copy that everybody passed by at the time. Now considered a timeless classic, in part down to the enthusiasm and belief of Ian Levine and DJs like him.
This coveted 1968 UK Demo is in spectacular mint minus condition, whoever wins this NS anthem will never need an upgrade.
