Description

Description

I adore these 7" ADVISION acetates. Although not unique, they are certainly very rare and enjoy a rich quality of sound.

Was it plagiarism or coincidence by the writing duo Aaron Schroeder & Joey Brooks, that "Walk Like A Winner" is so similar in makeup, title and power to the NS classic Gene McDaniels - "Walk With A Winner"?

Personally I think it's a coincidence, but to be on the safe side, Aaron Schroeder's Musicor involvement never released this magnificent beater on vinyl by any USA artist, maybe in case of copyright conflict. Although Jay Black cut a vastly inferior version at Bell Sound but fortunately remained acetate only.

Instead, Aaron Schroeder & Joey Brooks ended up sending the music and lyrics to England for possible usage. In steps prolific producer Reg Guest with his big voice "Brummie" prodigy Bob Henry! And WOW! what a job they craft with this beast ballad and "Henry's" window-shaking vocal. Very similar to the Walker Brothers "My Ship Is Coming In" another Joey Brooks creation.

Changing the title slightly to "Walk Away Like A Winner" the artist credit from "Bob" to "Robert" releasing it 18th March 1966 on British Philips BF 1476 into a market, although already primed to accept the "Walker Brothers" style of mushrooming full orchestra productions, pushed even higher by rich powerful vocals. But Robert Henry's 45 failed to receive airplay or sales. To disappear completely, only to reemerge when picked up on, by those instigative NS collectors in the early 70's.

Robert Henry - Walk Away Like A Winner - remains today arguably the finest UK Beat Ballad ever produced, the vinyl copy is frustratingly elusive..

Listen and prepare to be moved - the label image screams as "RARE" as!
