Description

Description

Whether it be the Jamaican Beverley's 45 or this the first record release for the now iconic UK Pyramid label, this is one very challenging 45 to acquire.

By 1967 call to arms anticipating "The Soldiers are coming" opening with a drill group trumpeting; with that brass-blast the shifting sands of Jamaican music was all but complete from SKA, Rock Steady was the sound of the mid-60's. Solidly depicted in this Duke Reid session, rolling out simplistic but highly effective vocal group harmony, from the turbulent year of 1967. A song predicting "Soldiers Take Over", a mid-tempo stroller liberally sprinkled with punched-in piano notes, punctuating the harmony vocals. A wonderful saxophone solo elevates the session half way through, the "Steady" production envelopes your space ass the mysterious "Rio Grandes" staying tight and fluid throughout. A thoroughly haunting tune unfolds ...

Flip it over for a wailing harmony blend of Rock Steady / Gospel / Soul again underlining the gatherings ease of togetherness, this time an inventive break blending rhythmic guiatar with Rock Steady pulses.

Two cool tunes that very seldom come to market...the first 45 on this highly regarded British imprint making it even more desirable..

Condition Report

Two clean labels, 4 prong centre fully intact. VInyl reveals soft hairlines, some soft background crackle in the quiet pauses.
