You cannot get a record more Tex-Mex than those 60's records produced by the wonderfully eclectic ARV International Records, set up in the most southerly Texas city possible, right on the very border with Mexico.

The label had a voracious appetite for recording and releasing local music. In among the Country & Western, Mexican mariachi band singles, were some great local Garage band, and off course Soul from the like of George Jay, Ray & The Beliares, Ray and The Blue Satins, Steve Jordan etc. they had a great in-house writer Ruben Peña who understood the "Soul-Sound" completely, he put together some killer tunes. Unlike many Tex-Mex soul recordings of the 60's, his style never involved over-powering Mexican brass that diluted the atmosphere. .

All his creation were drenched in real-deal Soul this one "The Blame Is On You /" is a moody honkin' horn production elevated by the growling deep throated "Ray" who is pointing the finger at his lady, for his dismay. his bad mood cradle by muscular brass. The combination of the gravel coated enraged vocal and the just as angry brass, make this a stand sound. Unique in make-up, a voice that demands your attention, lifted up by a blizzard of brass.

Rare and sounding just as great as it did back in 1977 on the chilly East Coast nights, snuggled between Arin Demain, Tony Middleton, Ronnie Forte etc.... time to make a comeback..
