RARE! and utterly mesmeric 1955 Los Angeles, Popcorn / R&B, in equally entrancing flawless condition!

Preston Love the master of the Sax!

As a young man he played with Count Basie's Orchestra, forming his own band in the early 50's working with jazz greats like Biullie Holiday, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, Wynonie Harris etc. This heavy weight R&B Popcorn vocal/instrumental was born when he teamed up with his friend and fellow Californian Johnny Otis. With Johnny's Show adding the the vocal element whilst Preston Love wielded his sax-power and directed the interjections of the haunting flute, Johnny directed the vocal support.

Pressed in March 1956, the rarity features a glorious cocktail of R&B, Jazz and Swing - perfect Popcorn dancefloor fuel. Flute intro sets the Far East backdrop in place, male vocal chants of "Ali" are gatecrashed by Preston Love's blow-hard Saxophone, momentarily stealing the show; until a blues plectrum cuts the song into ribbons by some magnificent slide-guitar intrusions. The flute snakes its way back in, followed by more chants of "Ali" and you cannot prevent this narcotic creation from creeping under your skin.

A killer tune, underlining the addictive dancefloor possibilities that an accomplished Jazz/R&B gathering can create, when friends get together and jam!

The flipside requires some appreciation also, the backing arrangement credited to "The Love Bugs" but is essentially his close friend Johnny Otis and team.
