Description

Authentic 14" by 10" June 1967 in-store CARD promo poster for the Northern Soul classic "Washed Ashore (On A Lonely Island In The Sea)"

The rampaging success of jazz vocal-group The Four Tops, triggered when Berry Gordy changed his first instincts and shepherded Levi Stubbs & friends towards Soul. Musicor thought they could hitch a ride on this new phenomena but could not quite capture the essence of the Soul dance sound of Detroit. From 1966 thru to 1967 under the direction of New York studio giant Luther Dixon; The Platters did OK but never recreated the magic the Four Tops/Temptations and the Motown machine were churning out with astonishing regularity.

Until in 1967 when Luther Dixon teamed up with the genius Motor City pianist, lyricist, arranger, producer Richard Popcorn Wylie. The male vocal-group Soul dance songs started roll out from Musicor.
"Sweet Sweet Lovin'" & "With This Ring" being there finest 60's recordings, until the crowning glory of the 60's decade was born, when the dynamic duo of Richard Popcorn Wylie & Tony Hester wrote a timeless Northern Soul masterpiece that still today stands as an all-time NS anthem.

There is hardly a seasoned Northern Soul DJ who has not electrified a room by dropping "Washed Ashore ( On A Lonely Island In The Sea )" at an unexpected moment.

New York collides with Detroit - wondrous energy explodes into a floor-destroying Northern Soul fallout.

To own an authentic poster promoting this, most-magnificent of recordings is a record den wall-hanger of significant, rarity and Soul collecting kudos.
