Before the Sony Walkman there was the Hip-Pocket Record player circa 1967. Big businesses attempt at making vinyl portable and affordable for 50 Million kids of America (so the advertising says)
Philco-Ford invented the battery operated record player you could carry in one hand or even slip into your coat pocket and slip the records into your back-pocket. You can sit on them as the are virtually indescribable according to the launch advertising at the time . These tiny 3.7/8th inch records for the mini-turntable were available in Woolworth and other department stores. With a deal struck with Atlantic, Mercury, Roulette & Apple to ensure top hits were available for this revolutionary invention, all the records came in a card-backed special picture sleeve. These are highly collectable with the Beatles "Apple" releases achieving 3 figure sums at auction.

Here is that VERY RARE record player in it's original Philco Box with 5 records, 4 of them STILL UNOPENED in there picture covers.
1. Etta James - Tell Mama 2. Otis Redding - Shake / Fa Fa Fa 3. Brenton Wood - Gimme A Little Sign 4. Isley Brothers - Twist And Shout 5. Jay & The Techniques - Apple Peaches Pumpkin Pie

This idea soon fell by the wayside as mini cassettes and later the "Walkman" stole the market. Today these more than cute discs, enjoy a cult following, and the record players still working are so rare we have never had another example.

Historically important, a real party piece, a jaw-dropping conversation starter as most of the planet have never see one in operation.

A rare, fun toy for the vinyl-head

Condition Report

Box has a rip at the opening see image. Player is clean, still has the original stylus and with new batteries works fine. 4 of the mini disc are still sealed, The Isley Brothers was opened for the photo shot and is Mint.
