The original a-side this 1971 cult-item, of a strangely haunting Prog-Rock deconstruction of William Blake's genius.

and lead with the equally "cultish" recording "Glastonbury" which coincided with the Glastonbury Fair Free Festival of 1971

An obscure one-off gathering of rock musicians under the guidance of Nick Harrison and the talented Jazz nurtured Tony Hall. Tony with his wealth of experience as a club (The 100 Club) A&R work. Was later given the task of recharging the Jazz arm of Decca in the early 60's. Notably he was the man behind the success of Ike & Tina Turner's "River Deep Mountain High" in Britain after it failed miserably in the USA.

Quite who this group were "The People" remains a mystery, but what is clear that this assembly of a Rock-Choir completely missed the mark, when attempting transform William Blake's anthem into a psychedelic-rock experience. Out of tune vocals and haphazard orchestral direction, were more disastrous, than the rock spectacle intended and of course the release failed to sell.

BUT ... as so often happens the flipside is a totally different story. When Nick Harrison & Tony Hall produced "Glastonbury" they had no idea they had just crafted a folk-psyche masterpiece. Tubular bells ring through a rich celestial choir, perpetual drumming pulses drive the scene, as flutes take to the air, taking the haunting atmosphere to its zenith. There are "beats" within this recording, that a hip-hop technician could borrow to great effect.. so far was this session ahead of it's time.

Listen and immerse yourself into accidental genius... do we a possibly hear a "Glastonbury" anthem emerging somewhere through an enterprising prog-rock DJ.

A rare record and the condition is superb!
