Rarest Of The Rare Detroit in just the finest possible condition.

A sumptuous Motor City twist on Marlina Mars's Bert DeCocteaux New York project, bringing the talents of Mike Theodore & Fred Saxon to the table, lifting and already superb song into the realms of Northern Soul greatness.

That as early as the Golden days of "The Torch" it had a hold on the Northern Soul psyche. The Blackpool Mecca, later Wigan Casino rocked to it's instantaneous intro that demanded a dancefloor reaction.
Patti's "Nella Dodds" style innocence is carried along on a wave of crashing cymbals, squealing Sister choruses, rattling drums rhythms and subtly restrained "Mike Terry-style" saxophone prompts that pepper the backing;
The Sax-Man can be shackled no longer, as the interlude explodes into a momentous bombardment of Saxophone prowess! As he starts with a classic style break, but soon taking on "Bari-Track" characteristics bellowing out one of Detroits most memorable sax-moments.

Bert DeCocteaux & Clyde Otis were surely talented writers and producers but they didn't have a saxophonist, or the backing band that Patti's version is blessed with.

This record has be registered on the super-elusive NS radar now for over 45 years with no sign of it getting any easier to add to collection. So when near perfectness presents itself.. do not pass by.

Over the years I've grown to really like the war-cry song "The Valiant" kind on the flipside which also gives up a saxophone performance to take notice of.

Condition Report

The most beautiful copy I've encountered in memory. Two perfect labels and vinyl that reveals no visible blemishes. Strong Mint minus / Mint minus staggering condition for this elusive title, that if it ever turns up it is invariably in "Detroit used"condition.
