Owen Gray with two of his own creations of 1962, 57 years old and still looking very clean indeed.

From the beginnings of SKA, Owen becomes another Alpha Boys School product, performing a "Coxsone" guided production. Owen had joined the C.S. Dodd team two years earlier, this was to be his last Blue Beat 45 release and seldom encountered in this clean condition. Check out the soundfile, it plays with hardly a murmur. As Owen soaring vocal is supported by strong trumpets blows, culminating in a fabulous solo trumpet break, a swaggering instrumental interlude before Owen again joins back into that relentless torrent of SKA dance rhythms.

The flip side cut right in the middle of the "Twist" dance-craze, still retains all the Jamaican influences that make it unrecognizable as a "Twisting" song. With the "Coxsone" studio male-vocal-group supports him with a doo-wop influenced chorus. With Clement Dodd exhibiting his versatility with the Trumpeter being replaced by a Saxophonist for another impressive solo break..

perhaps the only "Twist" record I enjoy listening to.

Two good sides..

Condition Report

Fine clean vinyl. 4 prong center fully intact, two clean labels. Vinyl visually reveals some occasional light surface hairlines, but as you can hear it plays superb. A strong EX grade, and so hard to acwquire in this state. A-side label has a light scuff on the letter "T" on Blue Beat (see image) flipside label in Mint minus.
