The very genesis of one of Northern Soul's best loved icons!

Written, arranged and produced by the 19 year old Texas soul prodigy E. Legier Perry from a family home at 6165 Belmark Street, Houston 4, Texas assisted by W. J. Locke Jr. This was to be the launching pad of a successful career of self promotion that won him fans across Europe, the Far East with his soulful creations on his own labels, self financing his dreams for the next 4 decades.

His impressive catalogue of recordings, giving the Northern Soul scene some of its finest moments over the coming years, with a continuous flow of standout material.

The birth of his career was 1962 when an ambitious Oscar Perry drew inspiration from Ben E. King's smash hit "Stand By Me", writing his own lyrics whilst borrowing the style from New York's finest music-makers; Brill Building giants Ben E. King, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller and of course that particularly inspiring guitar bass line awakening, perfectly suits Oscar's rich soft vocal approach with the delicious change down in key into purring baritone , whilst those shrill neighbourhood girls decorate the delivery, as Oscar tries to convince his girl "Big Sam" is a playboy, you'll come back me begging me for my true love, again. "Do Yourself A Favour And Stay."

Oscar was one hell of a soul-crooner, here delivering an effortless Jerry Butler-esque stroller hits all the notes of Beat Ballad Heaven.

Flip it over, Oscar doubles down on his impressive vocal powers, with a Deep Soul session most DS scholars have maybe never heard.

Two wondrous sides …
