Description

Description

Just prior to them renaming as Toots & The Maytals they crafted two stunning misd-tempo dance grooves. Two uplifting recordings from this highly regarded group, backed by one of Jamaica's most respect house-bands.

The Maytals abandon their signature combative style, to roll out a silky mid-tempo mover, peppered with swirling narcotic keyboard notes and heavenly girls hovering aloft. With Toots rich vocal leading the way to, what becomes an addictive sing-a-long session. As always, benefitting from tight harmonies, entangled in guitar pulses, tight percussion, whirling keyboard decoration. A record made with good-feeling, friendly enthusiasm. flows from Freddie "Toots" Hibbert's singing. Avocal never fails to impress, again he leads the pack magnificently only stepping aside for a saxophone blasting and a weaving clarinet.

On the flipside The Beverly All Stars, display their legendary prowess for the consistently muscular backing track. Another persuasive dance offering minus the front vocal.

Summit 8537 has over the years proved to be quite elusive, this super clean example is our first copy for quiet some time...

Condition Report

Tiny name in ballpoint on flipside centre, otherwise two clean labels, 4 prong centre intact, full gloss, close to mint minus vinyl, revealing just a few minuscule soft sleeve storage blemishes
