19th August 1963 British PROMO copy - beyond rare!

Marvin Gaye's second British 45, significantly rarer than "Stubborn Kind Of Fellow" this promo copy is our first copy of a DEMO for 15 years.

Two clean labels, 4 prong centre intact, flipside centre has been softly dated 19.8.63 in pencil we have left this in situ for provenance, but could be easily removed with a soft eraser, if you wish.

Motown at its snappy best! A brilliantly constructed piece of strolling Soul, exquisitely matched to Marvin's consummate style. With Marvin Gaye taking part in the writing himself, along with future Motown super-talents Norman Whitfield & William "Mickey" Stevenson. Lyrics following a simplistic piano from Earl Van Dyke, decorated with the shrill choruses of Martha & The Vandellas affirming Marvin's adulation of his girl. The beginnings of the Motown showcasing all the finger-clicking enthusiasm that formed the foundation of The Motown Sound.

As a PROMO copy this is one very elusive 45.. but you knew that already..

Condition Report

NOTE condition: read carefully strong gloss Ex+ vinyl, revealing only the finest surface hairline under light. NOTE a small area from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock is slightly thicker with soft bumps, than the rest of vinyl sharp edge perimeter (see images), on the very edge, not affecting play, a master-stamper flaw that does not detract from the overall beauty of this serious Tamla Motown rarity. Two clean promo labels, full gloss playing surface,
