Description

The strange phenomena of being one of Northern Soul's most-loved classics but seldom presented to the crowd.

Always a thrill to meet an old friend from the past, it hold a special place in my Northern Soul journey. My steadfast love affair with "Call Me Tomorrow" has now lasted nearly 50 years, it was one of those 45's that occasionally appeared on "Brian 45 Philips" Friday listings, that was snapped up within minutes of those anticipate 3 sheets of A-4 dropping through the letterbox.

I'd heard it's magical tones on a c90 sales cassette distributed by Simon Soussan in the early 70's. Those whirring guitar riffs and that imploring vocal, had me hooked from the very first play, in a congested white transit van, chugging it's way up the M6 one Saturday afternoon, with the Blackpool Mecca in our sights. After that introduction to this impressive song, I suffered from "Major Harris" deprivation for at least 18 months before I eventually owned a copy.

To me this sound, was so very different from the Northern Soul barometer of upbeat Motownesque dancers, it had a different quality the burrowed into you head, replaying it back to yourself in your head when least expected. I still feel like that today, when this old friend rarely comes my way.

So brilliantly different, this standout b-side was one of the very few OKeh Northern Soul 445's that until very recently never got reissued or bootlegged throughout its decades of adulation from collectors, retaining its additive mystique as it was only occasionally dropped into a DJs sets. When it was, it never failed to delight, as its cult following grew.

Today to acquire a copy, that has never visited England or the Northern Soul scene before is a rare thing. Although this Promo copy has a few mild surface blemishes from storage, it has certainly never encountered a DJ stylus in the UK and plays perfectly, both labels are flawless.

Still one of my all time NS pleasures..
