A record that has been highly regarded for nearly 5 decades among the serious Northern Soul collectors, but bemusedly neglected by NS DJs starving it of significant Northern Soul turntable action.

Recently though it is again being whispered about in the corridors of Northern Soul. Like all truly top quality NS tunes they bubble on back up to the surface by word of mouth or maybe an internet discussion, triggering the chase for ownership before some daring DJ makes it the monster it should have been back in 1974. I've always loved this New Yorker created by some of the Big Apple's most prolific creators of North Soul. Norbert "Super Hits" DeCoteaux has countless credits to his name, whilst Bob Schwaid worked on The Charts 60's revamp of "Desiree", a Twisted Wheel monster! He also guided Linda Elliott's "Last Night I Fell In Love With You Baby" proving "girls" were his forte. Whilst writer Bob Stone is a seasoned Northern Soul creator being the man behind The Unluv'd & the New Wanderers "Ain't Gonna Do You No Harm" This gathering had "form" for making a few good tunes..

Unlike the mysterious Madeline Wilson who cut this one and only 45, never to be heard of again . Maybe she was part of a group? or maybe this was a pseudonym for one of the ladies Bert and Bob had previously worked with? Madeline's vocal fully backed up by male harmony group, is convincingly saturated in "loneliness"; and she certainly doesn't come over as a "one recording" novice. Her expressive delivery, a huge part of the songs attraction, along with blaring but considerately supportive horns this song bristles with a fabulous NS dance feel. Non wonder this disc is again on the lips of those who just don't stop digging into our past to set free the wrongly convicted to a life sentence of snoozing; instead of waking up the crowd.

a killer tune, we know you can acquire as a scratchy has-been from abroad, pay the crazy postage and import duty for a copy that crackles.. if your gonna help revive a stunning Northern Soul sleeper, always strive to acquire two clean labels and scratch free playing surfaces... they hold their value so much better.
