It matters not, which side you drop the arm on, Luckey serves up definitive D.I.Y. Northern Soul Crossover, written, arranged ad produced by Luckey Jamal himself. Both recordings pleasuring the dancer with a classy fusion of guitar licks, understated stabbing horns, synth-strings giving attention-seeking early 70's Los Angeles Soulful Crossover benefitting from Luckey's rich vocal, heavenly girl-group responses. and of the highest order.

We'll start with the side that "Luckey" considered was the best by the X on the label, but today I'm wavering which is my preferred side, after being deprived of hearing either in recent times of Covid 19 and lockdown stopping me visiting my favourite discerning Soul clubs and hearing astute A-list DJ's that just may own a copy, I can request.

After a cautious intro "Love Is Better" picks up pace as the opening vibes start to evaporate, replaced by tricky guitar, steady drum pulses, considerate horn fill the air leaving Luckey's rich vocal to express his feelings. Resulting is a fluid dreamy journey into mid-tempo paradise. Everything fusing together, escalating into an impressive dance experience.

The flipside "Vacate" is more instant dancefloor igniter, as proved by being the preferred DJ choice earlier this century when I'd hear it at places like Soul Essence, or where the leading crossover DJs performed. A punchier production whilst staying within the boundaries of the seriously-soulful parameters. A snappy, happy-go-lucky production as Luckey joyfully dumps his girlfriend, the prospect of a new start seems to excite him.

I really relish both sides, I'm already regretting listing it for sale... as both sides tick all the boxes for entry into my fussy-handpicked play list.

Condition Report

X on a-side label is the only blemish on the faces of this rarity. Vinyl carries full clean gloss revealing just a few soft hairlines under light, both sides play crisp and clean (listen)
