Little Willie Littlefield famous for recording the original take of Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller's "Kansas City" made a huge hit by Wilbert Harrison.. here he is again rattling out a R&B Rocker, seems to be his rarest 45 from 1958 on Don Barksdale's Rhythm Records.
A Little Willie a recording artist since he was 16 years of age, laying tunes for Rhythm Records in his mid-20's. Little Willie was essentially a highly gifted Blues pianist with a beautiful gravel coated vocal propelled by Little Willie's lively piano notes, lifted by an insane guitar partition . On this recording, which Littlefield wrote both a-sides himself, allowed Don Barksdale to turning up the pace keeping the vocal up front. It was an inspired production that became Willie's rarest 45 for Barksdale's label; sadly it wasn't received well, selling nothing, like the majority of Little Willie's work. Hence the lead line of "I Need A Payday"
The flipside was more in keeping with Willie's style a the vibrant piano but background piano pulses...showcasing Willie again excelling at his piano keys, featuring a killer sax break. .
This disc stands today as a jewel in his of late 50's archive, with it's uncanny quality of creeping under your skin, demanding more than just one spin...

Two clean labels, strong gloss on the vinyl reveals multiple soft surface hairlines, but plays nice and clear, listen! There is a deeper mark and imprint at the finale of the a-side vinyl, that doesn't show up in the playback other than a couple of soft ticks (listen).A Side
