Description

For those of you who stalk those wonderful Northern Soul classics in their least seen, most-attractive, most unusual releases. How about this head-turning 1967 tri-centre Spanish Decca release complete with the unique picture cover.

100% Washington D.C. Northern Soul from the desk of the prolific Rosco Bowie. It had been two years since Leroy had released a 45, his solitary release for the fabled Shrine label with Eddie Singleton, only had mild local sales from that outing, no follow up for the Shrine consequently ever happened.

Leroy surfaced with this 45, he wrote himself; the uplifting "Oh Linda" that had been presumed many times in the past, that the "Linda" referred to was the lady who fronted "The Vistas" at Shrine and "The Pretenders" on Assault. That could well be true, but what is not in doubt is that Leroy was certainly in love "Linda". Rosco Bowie presses home that point, with some exemplary horn work bolstering Leroy's singing. Just as Rosco had done two years earlier with "his friends" with those two impressive Tec 45s. Rosco again wields his saxophone, conducts his "Friends" lavishly blown horns to interrupt at all the right times, as a subtle piano work paces out the dance irresistible dance pulses.

Leroy had one superb singing voice, adding Rosco Bowie's Band into the background promotes this song even higher.

Killer NS that is thankfully underplayed, a classic Northern Soul experience nobody has had the chance to grow tired of. Certainly those turntable cams at the weekenders would adore to focus upon this being cued up. Check out the tempting images, listen to that beckoning vocal, ride that muscular horn backing track! Ownership of it's rarest, most gorgeous format awaits
