Description

We have discussed the genius of Leonard Jewel Smith on many occasions on these pages, now here's a record that gives us another reason to laud this man's gift for creating a Northern Soul masterpiece.. on this disc he does it twice over.

The lead side, a much-loved Northern Soul classic, boosted by a flipside, now considered a "Lost" gem that lived in the shadows of the more obvious for too long.

We all love the Gene Page flowing vibe impregnated arrangement, with Leonard Jewel showcasing his rich silky vocal abilities, whilst an uncredited vocal-group supports his endearing voice.
We wrongly tend to think of Leonard Jewel Smith as a gifted wordsmith, a studio console technician but this 45 showcases what a Soulful voice he had too.
Whilst "All My Good Good Loving" is just perfect Northern Soul LJS chose it as the b-side and went with " The Elevator Song " as the lead, and one listen will tell you why. It may not have been in the classic Northern Soul style being sough in the late 70's. Bit for me " The Elevator Song " is the better of the two, validated recently by appearing on DJ play listed at those venues that think "outside the box"

Produced by Brenton Wood, Hal Winn, Maurice Rogers, with Gene Page crocheting the arrangement.. class just seeps from the grooves. As a flow of horns, piano take to the air, cradling Leonard's Jazzy performance enriched by relentless vocal harmony ensemble.

Absolutely adored this less obvious recording, top-drawer Northern Soul Crossover to the thinking audience..

Two killer tunes on the rare 1972 Los Angeles original press.. in spectacular condition
