The perfect example of underplayed NS excellence that should be peppering the Northern Soul clubs with it's brilliance, every weekend.

This talented blue-eyed songbird with her 2nd recording in 1967 on one of Detroit's most prestigious labels. From the very start of her career Kris was drawn to Soul music. Unsuccessfully covering Wilson Pickett's "Land Of A Thousand" & Muddy Waters "I Got My Mojo Working"

This song though, is much more cultured, riding the crests of soaring horns, suspended by the cooing from an elevated girl-group back-up. Rhythmic bongos patter out the delicious dance rhythms, complimented by Kris's gentle but throaty vocal. Guided by the great Mike Terry who considered, this superior song has no need for his burping baritone-saxophone prompting. As you can hear it's hard to imagine how this NS dancer could be improved upon, even with Mike's reed embellishments.

Sleeping Detroit Northern Soul, that has long enjoyed a huge appreciation from it's sadly meagre turntable outings. It ever there was Northern Soul 45 that comes under the umbrella of "neglected" this superb tune, is surely it!

Listening takes me back, to when many tunes like this got lost in an avalanche of top-drawer Northern Soul that swamped Britain during the mid-70s..the time is now, for a panting St. Bernard with a barrel of reviving restorative to pull Kris Peterson free from being snowed under from unimaginative Northern Soul mediocrity, that unfortunately floods the scene from time to time.
I'm already suffering from pangs of seller regret...
