Description

FIRST PRESS.

A fine clean May 1967 first press from the drummer-boy of Sherwood, Nottingham.

R&B / Soul ran through Robert Anson's veins, appearing in such fabled Brit soul/jazz/R&B gatherings as Brian Auger and the Trinity, Graham Bond Organization and the cool jazz of Don Rendell featured in his history. Even a very brief , one-time stint with the "The Who" when Keith Mood was out of action.

Hooking up with Island's stalwart producer Jimmy Miller and some very talented musicians in "The "Machine" the coming together surprisingly only spawned this one-off single. Even though it sparked an instant dancefloor candidate. The musical hydrolysis sparked by John Holiday bass guitar, quickly followed by Peter Solley's piano switching to the swirling Hammond, relentless drumstick beats the time. A curled-up-lip lead vocal spits out his admission of "Hurt" but only a "little bit". His pride spouting contemptuous lines of bravado, within the roaring foot-to-floor high-octane production.

A perfect dancefloor power-source...

But do not overlook the heavy-duty Hammond instrumental on the flipside, featuring Peter Solley with insane keyboard manipulation, John Moreshead wild guitar work, pulsating bass guitar from John Holiday, and and additional drummer in the form of Keith "The Baron" Webb... the team rip it up again, in "Wynder K. Frog" style with "Sweet Bacon"... a flipside just bleeds MOD!

Two killer sides, encapsulating mid-60's, a goodtime dancer which ever side you drop the arm on - it's total runaway juggernaut MOD dancer.

Condition Report

Two clean labels, 3 prong centre intact, full gloss vinyl reveals just a few sparse soft surface hairlines when angled in the light, plays superb. Still housed in its birth-sleeve.
