The realization of when you haven't heard an old favourite in an age, then "PROPER NORTHERN SOUL" hits you head-on, what a wonderful feeling of euphoria as you travel backwards in time.

Some will say this is a Wigan Casino anthem, whilst others will acknowledge it as a 100% Cleethorpes Pier motivator. One thing is for sure in 1975 both of the country's biggest allnighters were rockin', bouncing and rumbling to the sounds of Johnny Bragg and Bergen White's incomparable manipulation of his Nashville horn section. As Bergen had done so many times before with his studio direction for John Richbourg and the Soulful Allen Orange at Sound Stage 7. Bergen White was indeed the master of the Nashville brass, as you are about to hear.

I'd not enjoyed the frenetic fury Johnny Bragg for decades, that unmistakable opening pumping of the keyboards, the upsurge of hard blown brass immediately ignited my long dormant love for Johnny's uplifting voice riding a wave of squealing girls, honking horns, hard poked keyboard; jelling into one pounding assault of real-deal old-school Northern Soul. Sheer delight rippled through me as I morphed back into a 21 year old handclapping trainee gymnast. Treading of other dancers feet as I go into my blinkered auto-clumsiness hearing only the music.. seeing nothing.

Great memories, ignited by a truly great NS classic presented her complete with the rarely-seen clean picture cover.

The big production beat-ballad flipside "Is It True" is well worth a listen also...
