Both sides of this French only 45, were lifted from Johnnie's highly regarded 1967 album "Wanted One Soul Singer" many consider his finest LP of them all. no UK or USA release as a 7" for these two perfectly paired Northern Soul dancers.

That legendary Memphis creative combination of Isaac Hayes & David Porter conjure up the most enslaving rhythms and pulses for JT to whoop, scream and punch the lyrics into, the result of course is absolutely stunning.

"Blues In The Night " is a sulking mid-tempo dance groove that just gets everybody up on their feet, it's irresistible qualities gushing from every guitar pick, driving JT's wide ranging vocal onward. Howling, whooping, snarling in his relentless pursuit to do this astounding recording justice. Then an authoritative saxophone enriches the session, raising the bar yet again, crafting a record that just stays with you long after the evening is over.. addictive is an understatement.

For another Memphis marvel, flip it over as this trio of Memphis Magicians deconstruct Herbie Hancock's anthem "Watermelon Man" again serving up absorbing, off-beat cocktail of Jazz, R&B and Soul.

Two standout sides, French only as a 7" - listen and prepare to become messed into its alluring charms.

I adore both sides... you will to.
