The recent sad passing of David White has prompted me to highlight this man's glittering career with and equally spectacular picture cover and promo 45 of the stunning girl who came under the guidance of the "Double Diamond" team of John Madara, David White, Leon Huff and Len Barry with a typically inspirational slab of Northern Soul that White & Madara seemed able to effortlessly create.

The partnership of David White & John Madara started when John was co-writer with fellow Philadelphian Artie Singer on the smash hit "At The Hop" for Danny & The Juniors. Later, David White & John Madara formed one of the greatest writing relationships of the 60's, not only building up a mountain of hits for Len Barry whilst also creating some of the greatest Northern Soul recordings from their work at the Bell Sound studios in New York.

Their work was always optimistically uplifting, featuring driving big productions that ticked all the Northern Soul boxes. Having built up relationships with some of the most gifted young talents of the area. Noteably Leon Huff, Len Barry, Joe Renzetti amd Jimmy The Wiz Wisner. Leon Huff on keyboards, Bobby Greg on drums, Joe Mack on bass, Vinnie Bell & Trade Martin on guitars with percussion supplied by the great Panama Francis; with Artie Kaplan directing the horms..
This was surely the dream team of the time.

Adding girl vocal choruses by Little Joe Cook's daughters The Sweet Three and the gorgeous New Yorker Joey Heatherton; making up a gathering that could have maybe laid claim to the now familiar strapline "The Sound of Philadelpia".

"When You Call Me Baby" was of course a huge Cleethorpes Pier & Wigan Casino favourite, a floorfilling dancer that triggered an MCA reissue to meet the demand.

Before you today is an irresistible 1966 "pink" promo complete with a tantalizing picture cover capturing the ravishing Ms Heatherton in provocative pose..

surely one of Northern Soul's most alluring collectables..
