Description

Description

A double helping of Margaret Whitfield's writing prowess, as she crafts not one but two blinding R&B Popcorn dancers for Chicago guitar and harmonica maestro Jimmy Lane aka Jimmy Rogers.

One of the most-wanted of all the late 50's Southside Chicago blues movers. The Jimmy was a former valued member of Muddy Water's team before he branched out achieving some R&B chart with "That's All Right" in 1950 and "Walking By Myself" in 1954 but neither of those sides match up the the addictive brilliance, that mesmeric voodoo influences drill through you during the "What Have I Done" or "Trace Of You" brutal transmission.

The choice is up to you which side to drop the arm on, the result is the same. Moody, lounge "Walk" styled R&B stroller littered with 50's descriptiveness "You got me koo-koo Baby, koo-koo in My Head" woven into a backdrop of searing harmonica, hard-hit drumming and beckoning bass guitar pulses. It's a dancefloor igniter, a beguiling R&B stroller of the highest order.

Flip it over for "Trace Of You" gives up deliberately aggressive poking of the piano keyboard, the perfect intro for Jimmy's grizzly vocal, the call is answered every time by shrill jumping girl choruses; sizzling hot harmonica bears down on the arrangement, slicing the song in two with a brutal break, adding yet another edge to this savage R&B dancer.

Which side do we prefer? I've change my mind 4 times, whilst writing this review, shall we say both sides are equally towering with those distilled Southside influences just jumping out at you, every chance they get..
