Description

A 1967 D.I.Y. British project by Derek Knight production aided by Pye's rising star producer John Schroeder with the experienced Les Reed conducting. Resulting in a non-hit but the birth of a Northern Soul classic! Seldom seen clothing., a solid centre that sold virtually nothing upon release. This became Derek Knight's one and only solo single.

Having already cut his recording teeth as a member of the Pye's 4 man R&B slanted group "The Loving Kind" and sang upbeat cover versions of "Ain't That Peculiar" etc. John Schroeder was quite happy producing two songs Derek had written. John Schroeder himself was heavily in favour of Soul & R&B and produced perhaps more homegrown "Soul" 45's than any other British producer during the mid 60's thru to early 70s. A "Brit" the Northern Soul fraternity should maybe paying homage to, his output for UK "Soul" was truly astonishing.

On this Jason Knight recording, Schroeder together with Les Reed summon up and blend the forces of blaring brass, pumping Sax; accompanying the muscular vocal of an enthusiastic Jason Knight. The result is just perfect Northern Soul, beat for beat, bristling with all the credentials of a USA production. So good in fact, it has remained a Northern Soul classic to this day and is currently enjoying a welcomed renaissance with the dancefloor.

It was a title that was burned into the minds of every young Northern Soul fan during the early 70's, as the hope of finding a copy during a local vinyl-dig was the dream, every time you walked into the corner junk shop or ran to the local market stall to see what was new.. it was records like this that drove the desire to get there first...

OMG I would have died a horrible death if anyone ever found a copy of this in Melton Mowbray when I was a kid.

Now before you is the extremely elusive 1967 solid centre UK press..to me and all other vinyl-veterans, a thing of real beauty!

Now unleash that floor-demolishing soundfile!
