Polydor 56158's rarity is legendary, after a few spins at the 100 Club, Oxford Street. There has been a few connoisseur whisperings about it's rarity. This is only the 2nd copy I've seen in my lifetime! Its British Soul collectors underground reputation is huge. The need for an influential MOD DJ ownership is overwhelming, after all this would be a MOD anthem, if anyone actually owned a copy.

This 1967 45's story unfolds, this completely off-the-wall release was withdrawn by UK Polydor after a fateful release and the meagre remaining copies shipped to Scandinavia. That does seem to be the only area of the world that has found a copy, excepting to wild outposts of Lincolnshire, where Norsemen used to rampage.

With the original a-side "Joe Poor" whilst perfecting showcasing Jack Hammer's juggernaut vocal, it falls short of being "club material". But the insane flipside is drenched in addictive weirdness and character.
A preaching Jack Hammer's guttural voice takes on a "King Coleman" persona, as he struts through a mix of swirling Hammond, guitar, wailing trumpet intrusions and rhythmic handclaps with Jack evangelises the virtues of the 60's "love" discotheque... an absolutely unique performance of Soul/Psychedelia delivered in pile-driver attitude. You cannot help but play it again.

You are listening to and viewing without question one of the VERY RAREST of all the 60's British 45's ever made.

Dripping with untold MOD kudos, it awaits the next owner of this "Tutankhamun mask" of British Soul vinyl...
