Description

A monster tune for Carl Willingham - his audience always thought he had got it covered up.. but no, it was a 7" acetate actually by written, produced by ex-Pastels vocalist J. B. Willingham.

The writer of Sam Fletcher's "I'd Think It Over" J. B. Willingham, again shows off his lyricist powers with another poignant Northern Soul stroller, carrying the same atmospheric quality forewarning, he "Don't Wanna Be Hurt No More" . James B. Willingham who crooned The Pastels (along with Dee Irwin) who recorded in New York, released the mighty atmospheric "Been So Long" hit.

James' Soul interest shone though, when supplying songs for The Isley Brothers, The Marvels, Ernie Harris, Mare Knight, Frank Polk, etc etc. This one is a demo cut that never got took up by anyone we know. But what a great tune it is, a subtle mid-pacer decorated with understated but soaring horns, embellished with girl group choruses, and persistent piano flurries, a grower that builds up a head of steam to slowly but surely creep under your skin. NO wonder it was a "Carl" Willingham signature spin.

So very classy, memorable and unissued!

The flipside "Ooh Bop Sha Bam" is a really nice tight harmony ballad without hitting any high points in Doo-Wop or Sweet Soul genres, it kind of sits in between the two.

But "Don't Wanna Be Hurt No More " wow what a tune!
