The most desirable way to own this Northern Soul anthem.

The seldom seen Sassy White Demo!

We had no shame when we were young, this record was so very exception, my soul-buddy Trevor Hurd brought it to our local Youth Club, as an unofficial acetate he purchased at "The Torch" there was no OVO police in those days, we were just ecstatic our local Kirby Lane, Youth Club member could hear it. We were Northern Soul missionaries, spreading the word. I don't think I even knew what the real label looked like when I drop this freshly cut acetate on the decks..

So one Friday night we presented one of the greatest Northern Soul recordings of all time, those already converts were jumping for joy, the others ghuys were back next week requesting "This Old Heart Of Mine" "Get Ready" for the 1000th time.

But surely Frank Beverly was responsible, perhaps above all others, for inspiring and totally diverting 1000's of teenagers away from humdrum music, onto a course of Northern Soul dedication. OUr gang that started to travel to The Cats, THe Mecca, Va Va's etc had swelled to 15 or more. Then into a lifetime glued to Northern Soul by the desire to feel that overwhelming sensation of euphoria that only records of this calibre can provide. Spine-chilling, goose-bump inducing, pulse racing euphoria we all experience the first time this masterpiece of 60's Soul hit our ears. We all remember it well, and remember the longing for the weekend to return, so we could get another uplifting fix of Northern Soul and hopefully another new tune to ignite our senses. Or waiting for Trevor Hurd to stop by and supply some more illicit acetates for our consumption.

"Since I've Been With You Darlin', I've Been Walkin' Into Close Doors..."

those opening words still 45 years later, Frankie Beverly lifts my day... but not quite as much as holding the highly-prize SASSY WHITE DEMO!
