A Northern Soul timeless anthem with a huge reputation for being a "Thinking-Man's" oldie, that has been a frustrating challenge to secure for well over 50 years.
From the first note this record explodes into a distilled Northern Soul delight. Twangy guitar picks, aerial horns, followed those shrill woo-wooing girl choruses. Beckoning the earthy vocal of Mr. Mosley to step to the mike, a voice with the capacity of changing key at will, with the brass accompaniment never out-blowing his convincing style.
Perfectly timed instrumental breaks, punctuate this dancer as the horns, guitar and those girls' heavenly choruses reach out, just gets stronger and stronger...
THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL...!
Its muscular presence will transport many dancers to "The Pier" and the groundbreaking sets of Ginger Taylor, Ian Dewhirst, Poke etc. It was a North Sea early morning imperative play. Having said that, of course The Blackpool Mecca, Wigan Casino & Yate were also simultaneously detonated by its immense power. It was a perfect mid-70's soul-storm, at a time when Muriel Day- Nine Times Out Of Ten, Babe Ruth - Elusive, Bobby Goldsboro - Too Many People, Sue Lynn- Don't Pity Me etc. were pulling the scene in a perilous direction - it was sounds like Ernest Mosley - Stubborn Heart - that steered the NS scene away from a Northern Soul car-crash into "dance pop" and "disco".
A recording that kept our love of proper rare-soul alive, thankfully Stafford's "Top Of The World" and the "100 Club" came along to chauffeur to scene through under-supported times along a bumpy road of 80's, with many more rare "pure-soul" 45s being dancefloor favourites. It was in many ways "Stubborn Heart " and records like it, that set the tone for the future. .
A long-deemed 45 of Chicago "Grail" status, that seldom comes to market.
But do not overlook the neglected flipside "Keep On Loving Me" that has threaten to rise up and take its own place in the history of Chicago NS greats.

Two clean labels, only reveal the mildest signs of storage wear, NO writing, stickers, h2o, to mar those iconic light blue labels (see images), vinyl reveals some soft surface hairlines, visually vg+, but plays totally clean (listen). to the bright clean Excellent playback.A Side
