Description

Even though, 70s record-hound Steve Cooper of Bedford discovered more than a clutch of copies back in 1977 it didn’t hinder this previously unknown Northern Soul juggernaut from instantly rocketing to the very pinnacle of the Northern Soul most-wanted chart, the marching onward to become the rare top 500 anthem it is today.

I can’t even imagine the surging adrenaline-rush that Steve must have experienced when he introduced the stylus to those mint grooves, Steve’s hopes and dreams of finding an unknown Northern Soul monster as he left runway at Heathrow, USA bound embarking on vinyl hunt of a lifetime, had come true, in that one fleeting moment.

Today those “Steve Cooper” finds have long been absorbed into the ever expanding Northern Soul family, seldom surfacing for sale - hardly surprising, as this calibre of Northern Soul, is not a discs serious collectors would ever consider parting company with.

Not just because of the memories this evokes when played (personally it catapults me back in time, to an East Coast, All niter record bar and buying a copy myself from the charismatic, now highly respected veteran record-hound Steve Cooper from Bedford; who had been fortunate enough to find a few, circa 1977. That was 47 years ago and from that "find" the Ellusions went on to be one of the biggest NS spins for the next 18 months. Then the inevitable bootleg happened, pressed in horrid styrene; that put the brakes on its skyward climb.
Two rich red full colour flawless labels, no light exposure red fade whatsoever. Beautifully clean MINT minus vinyl, a stunning copy!

Perfectly paced pumping percussion, catches a wailing Saxophone as it meanders along for a meeting with an inviting boom of a lead vocal. Cradled by a delicious raft of vocal-harmonies, falsetto crescendo's cut the air before the BEST EVER,SAX BREAK summons the dancers to up their game with enthusiastic footwork. The seamless vocals come back in, then that incredible Sax blows the finale!

THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL!!!

Since those glory days when it was possible to unearth truly great previously records, there has been hardly a sighting in the wild of this standout vocal-group slab of Northern Soul. Not many relentless crate-diggers can boast of turning a copy up in the last 47 years; that's why this 45 is now an investment-level disc. Escalating in value year on year, as each passing decade endorses its extreme rarity.

this is a "true NS great", one of the greatest finds ever, thanks for the memories Steve...
