Stateside, just like it's EMI predecessor Top Rank, is considered one of the United Kingdoms' most prestigious, most-collectable labels. Throughout the 60's bringing all manner of obscure artists, labels and styles of music from the USA, to the British public. Unfortunately very little of it ever got exposure through radio stations or indeed music magazines of the time. Far to many truly superior recording, passed by completely unnoticed.

Even though Eddie Jefferson only released two 45s in total, during his career; one for Stax, one for Goldwax two iconic Memphis vehicles of Soul. This example of his work, was gratefully received by EMI as part of their Goldwax output that included Percy Milem, James Carr. This was one of Memphis's most wonderful Deep Soul creations, turning out to be Eddie Jefferson's only British release. A non-seller that was quickly deleted, today a very rare 45 indeed, which dedicated Stateside scholars will testify.

Co-written by Eddie Jefferson & label owners Quinton Claunch and Rudolph Russell. " When You look In The Mirror" is quintessential "Goldwax" one of the labels greatest Deep Soul offerings, with Stateside giving it the coveted "SOUL SUPPLY" text on the labels, but quickly dropping it to the flipside in favour of the meatier horn driven dance side "Some Other Time", hoping in vain for club DJ action. "Soul Supply" was the label pointer for those early British cratediggers mostly working in the dark to find Soul records in the UK. Only the "Pirate" offshore Radio Stations ever played these obscure artist 45's, and then only on fleeting occasions, you would have been very lucky indeed in 1967 to hear Eddie Jefferson on you transistor radio.

This listing is especially for Deep Soul & British collectors who appreciate just how elusive Stateside 591 actually is, bringing you the sound of Memphis to these shores. Killer Deep Soul ballad, and a gritty dancer on the flip, presented here in flawless condition. Mint - throughout still housed in original birth-sleeve.

A record deserving of a much wider audience, with the Goldwax release also rarely coming to market.
