Crafted by one of the most productive partnerships ever to combine their writing, arranging & production skills, consistently creating the very finest Detroit Soul Music..

Label owner George Stratton had an eye skilled local talent, he had already employed Joe Hunter to guide the Dynamics through their only other “Top Ten” release, another closely harmonized Northern Soul session. But not as instantly danceable as the inspiring “Yes, I Love You Baby”

February 1966 California had a chance to encounter the gifted Richard Popcorn Wylie & Tony Hester, but missed the opportunity to uplifting, irresistible dance record from Detroit as it lay hidden on the flipside of a moody attempt at "Dance Craze" that failed. No radio airplay and it passed everybody by unnoticed, although the rumbling bass-line intro peppered with cymbal smacks, would surely more likely have caught the listener's attention. Neatly decorated with intricate guitar riffs before the silky lead voice confirms his love for his girl. Tight highly pitched male harmonies coast along in the background whilst hand-clapping, finger-popping energy ratchets those dance pulses up, even higher. So very infectious but still Wylie & Hester had to wait again before California recognised their talents.

It is one of the less frequently heard but truly great Northern Soul recording with the power to still trigger goose-bumps and the need to dance . Hearing records like this, transports me back to 1973/74 and the Golden Years of Northern Soul. Fortunately this is one of my all-time favourites that thankfully has not been overplayed by the crowd-pleaser DJs thus today it is still sounding so fresh and inspiring; just like it did way back when... Surely today a tune crying out to be dropped an imaginative oldies set, in the knowledge none of the audience will be muttering ...surely not this again. An under-played classic saturated in pedigree. #

Not to mention as the west coast promo so very collectable.

A classic I’ll never tire of hearing and I suspect you won’t either... but "Soul Sloopy" is ripe for an hearing.. moody, down n' dirty with a squealing saxophone, snarling vocal making it dead right for today... surely carries the potential to turn a few heads.
