A double killer of New Orleans soul, emerging in Pennsylvanian on a deal that saw Hank Sample released on sister-label Jay Walking and Donald Lee Richardson released on Soulville as an afterthought. Originally this 45 was scheduled for Jay Walking 006, a slot which Hank Sample filled and appropriately Soulville decided Donald Lee would move over to the their flagship label.. after all this recording shimmers with snarling SOUL and some, not a recording to just shelve and forget.

Top side is proper foot-to-the -floor real-deal stomping Northern Soul. A screaming classic showing the dancer no mercy, taking no prisoners with it's cocktail of urgent singing, driving guitar picks and a nuclear powered brass-bombardment; ingredients that shook all those life changing clubs of the early 70's. Who hasn't been driven to the limits of the dancing abilities by this force-of-Soul?

Once again we have the genius of Wardell Quezergue to thank for yet another Northern Soul Anthem that invaded our shores to intensify our Saturday night Sunday Morning experience. Relentless, unforgiving, towering Northern Soul that is hard on the comeback trail as those oldies DJ's open windows into our past.. this is a cool example that has thankfully not suffered from decades of over familiarity; still sounding so refreshingly vibrant, today.

But we can already hear those of you "Crazy About Crossover" shouting "What About The B-side!!"

Absolutely, the flipside is a winner too. With the studio taking a breather, from the frenetic "Palm Of My Hand" crafting an enchanting Soulful mid-tempo, shedding the pressing insistence of the a-side, replacing it with a muscular mid-tempo serving up regret and reflection. With this expressive New Orleans singer pouring out an imploring anguish, convincing you with every word; without the aid of any other backing vocal, Donald turns in an on your knees "crossover" shuffler of exquisite purity. Consummately riding pulsating horns, lilting guitar work... a quality "Crossover" offering, backs up relentless Northern Soul.

What a record!!
