Description

Description

Don Rendell, British saxophone supremo with his rarest most wanted work, as an authentic original 1966 UK press of this legendary album.

Includes on the inner sleeve a Peter Clayton review of this album performed live in 1966, prompted by the cancelled appearance at Camden Town Hall of the much anticipated UK performance of Detroit's saxophonist Sonny Stitt. Don Rendell / Ian Carr Quintet were to support Sonny that Saturday night, but were persuaded to perform the whole evening when Sonny was force to cancel. That night "Dusk Free" was performed live. Thus making this innovative Jazz gathering's growing reputation set in stone, as the composing collaboration of Don Rendell, Ian Carr and Michael Garrick Quintet created a formidable journey into British Jazz.

Every Jazz collector is aware of the serious significance and desirability of this fabled album, which most never have owned, or seen the first press in the flesh. This copy is a fabulous Mint minus throughout and includes some original newspaper cuttings; including the "Camden" 1966 review, later three different Don Rendell obituaries from The Independent, Telegraph and The Guardian carefully collected by the meticulous previous owner who purchased this album from new and cosseted it in this unblemished condition for 55 years

It is of course a listening experience that simmers, percolates and bubbles with extreme musicianship, the participants went on from that fateful night of Sonny Stitt's no-show, to become one of the most revered British Jazz groupings of all time.
One listen will convince you that this album is one of the greatest Jazz platters of all time.
