Ridiculously rare 1969 South African single complete with it's birth sleeve.

"Wring That Neck" track 2 taken from their June 1969 "The Book Of Taliesyn" album along with the a-side "Kentucky Woman" track 3 off the same album.

We lead with "Wring That Neck" not only because it's a killer slab of Prog Rock 5:11 in length. But also a tune that was an integral part of Deep Purple's live performance, when the group could jam ""Wring That Neck" for up to 1/2 an hour of insane guitar ad-libbing. But is also so very rare as a 7" single, coupled with "Kentucky Woman" only being released in Sweden, Italy and this by far it's rarest form the South African 45. Of course Wring That Neck" was usually coupled with "Emmaretta" which achieved worldwide distribution in 1969. Why EMI in just 3 countries went with this coupling is a bit of a mystery. But to serious Deep Purple fans this South African 45 is a "Grail" being absolutely one of their most elusive singles.

For precise documenting the machine stamped deadwax matrix reads A-side: 7 XCE 21234 / B-side: 7 XCE 21235

We are most unlikely to encounter this disc again, so act accordingly.

Condition Report

Four prong die-cut centre intact, both labels are free of any flaws. vinyl reveals surface, "Wring That Neck" gives off occasional light crackle not too distracting. But "Kentucky Woman" has slightly worse surface marks and the background crackle is more prominent especially on the intro. This rare 45 comes complete with the original Springbok Parlophone birth-sleeve
