Description

Description

A glaring example of the Decca vs EMI in-house rivalry, if you wasn't paying attention it would appear Chris Farlowe had a new release in August 1966.

Even though EMI sneakily omitted the "Thunderbirds" artist credit itr soon became obvious this 45 was in fact two previous 1964 b-sides were coupled up to make "one" single. With the purpose to ride on the back of Farlowe's recent triumphs on Decca's Immediate label.

The chosen a-side was a worthy cover version of the New Orleans classic R&B ballad hit for Jimmy Clanton in 1958. EMI backed it up with a snarling Hipshaker "Hey, Hey, Hey" written by Chris Farlowe himself along with his "Thunderbirds" guitarist Bobby Taylor. The more sellable side at it had already broken into some MOD DJ sets by 1966.

"Hey Hey Hey Hey" is still considered a simplistic, down-to-earth Brit-MOD-shaker, benefitting from Farlowe gravel-coated vocal.

As a Red & White Demo it is a rare thing of beauty, especially in such beautifully clean condition.
