Description

WOW.. WE JUST ADORE THIS RECORD!

Sumptuous, top quality Northern Soul mid-tempo, that I immediately retrieved my own collection copy to file in my DJ Box, it is a completely irresistible example of classy mid-tempo Northern Soul. Pure quality from those reliable pens of band members Mac Gayden & Jerry Tuttle part of a congregation of Nashville's finest session musicians, all going on to have rewarding careers as valued studio members.

Monument Records in their wisdom led with the group's "jam" of Marvin Gaye's Motown classic "Stubborn Kind Of Fellow" which quiet frankly fails miserably, as the group never get near matching Motown's magic with a Charlie's Harmonica replacing the original's girl-group choruses, just does not, for me, work at all.

As so often has happens a true masterpiece it was placed and obscured on the flipside of failed recording, for decades until those investigative Northern Soul pioneers gave it long overdue turntable exposure...

I'm totally enamored by this mid-tempo NS floater at the moment, I aleways try and fit it into my DJ set and it is always so well received. As it draws you into its stunningly haunting atmosphere of Charlie's newfound optimism. Building layers of smooth soul on a warming breeze of exuberance, reminiscent of a silk-cloth of blowing in the wind, with the occasional gust of pouting trumpets from above adding muscle to his bouyant mood.

Resist it's overwhelming charms if you can!

Very rare in this form and in need of much more Northern Soul acknowledgment, my own copy is now very active on the weekends, as it continues to completely bowled me over on every spin.

Utterly entrancing Northern Soul...who's reputation grows year on year..
