No matter what country you try and locate a copy of the iconic recording of Cassius Clay's more than worthy version of the Ben E. King anthem "Stand By Me". Released a month after he won the world championship. The 45 represents a record collecting prize...

"I Am The Greatest" Cassius's catchphrase throughout his earliest victories in his career, makes for an historical recording. The quick witted Clay stringing together sharp humorous lines, as if one of music's "earliest rap stars". Columbia records were struggling to find another side to record, when Cassius told them he often sang "Stand By Me" in the bathroom. So that's what he did in the studio, and a great job he did too, a rich booming vocal. With the Columbia production team going to extra mile. Incorporating a heavyweight guitar bassline, a swirling Hammond organ and not a girl vocal in earshot. A muscular, manly, rendition just how Columbia wanted to portray there new signing, but it was to be Cassius's one and only 45 release, along with the massively sought-after "I Am The Greatest " album.

Because at the same time Columbia where promoting his 45 and album, Cassius announced at the age of 22 on March 6, 1964 he had changed his religion and renamed himself Muhammad Ali.

This is a fabled 45, that no matter which country it was released in USA, United Kingdom, Japan, Greece or the impossible Australian it is a very rare disc to acquire. Some country's harder than others. But a a Singapore PROMO copy complete with a unique picture sleeve manufactured by U.P. (1960) LTD. of Kuala Lumpur, it is the ultimate rarity of all its various birthplaces. An odd combination of advertising a "Big 4 For 64" EP on the back cover. Rubber stamped "NOT FOR SALE RADIO STATION COPY"

This rare 45 came from a September 1968 Radio Singapore audit of their stock, which saw the labels rubber-stamped "CATALOGUED" and the dated.

A listing for those of you who seek the conversation-piece records in their rarest, most interesting form. This 45 complete with picture cover is without question its “greatest” and Rarest Of The Rare release.
