Description

Description

An auction LP not only because of the vinyl’s spectacular condition, but also because of the standout but under-the-radar non-45 tracks that Don Davis and his gifted Groovesville machine crafted for this Devine Diva.

Take a listen to “I Play For Keeps” a truly awesome melding of Detroit & Memphis; giving up perfect Northern Soul, decorated with riffs reminiscent of Jackey Beavers - I Need My Baby - . With Carla’s young southern soul vocal lifting the production so effortlessly into sublime Northern Soul.

Likewise “Don’t Say It No More” shimmers with Northern Soul turntable potential... then Don serves up a more classic style Memphis blending funkier rhythms around that delicable voice.

Also on the track listing is Carla’s finest 1969 Stax 45 release “I Like What You’re Doing To Me” b/w “Strung Out” both feature on this album. Along with more non-45 recordings that also impress..”How Can You Throw My Love Away” + the deep soul masterpiece “Guide Me Well” + another Don Davis directed dancer fills the air as “Special Memories” unfolds. The above mentioned all have the power to light up a discerning rare Soul gathering.

With “I Play For Keeps” a MONSTER WAITING TO RETURN.

Certainly an album, that is right up there alongside those considered the greatest Sister albums of the 60’s.. Every track an emotion changer..
