Description

Description

Issue no. 9 from June 1968 is one of Blues & Soul rarest in the early A5 format series.

With The Showstoppers were on their 1st UK tour, they are adorning the front cover

Check out their tour dates June 1968 which included a stop off in Melton Mowbray... This snotty-nosed 15 year old didn't attend, I most probably getting my fishing kit ready for the glorious 16th.
Whilst my big brother Martyn went to Melton Mowbray, territorial army Drill Hall to watch James & Bobby Purify perform; with Oscar Toney Junior appearing the week after.
James & Bobby Purify after the Drill Hall performance went 16 miles up the road to Nottingham's legendary "Brit Club" or maybe The Dungeon or The Beachcomber the Nottingham's soul club hotspots.

in 1968 "Pork Pie Land" had SOUL also! All I had in 1968 was a tin of worms, fishing rod and an out of control sex drive...The itinerary this evening, for me these two acts makes riveting reading.

Further inside soul music reviewer Roger St. Pierre interviews the most popular act in England at that moment.
The Showstoppers - Ain't Nothing But a House Party - was a massive dancefloor hit, throughout the land. From the Twisted Wheel to every small town youth club, the youngsters were lapping up their Philadelphia energy. A fabulous interview with a full page group pic adorning the opposite page to interview. +
J. J. Jackson another Melton Mowbray, Drill Hall stage attendee. Full page artist shot plus an in-depth John Abbey bio/interview
Robert Knight with full page artist shot + John Abbey bio/interview.
G-Clefs full page artist shot + John Abbey bio/interview.
Small artist poses from Barbara Lynn & Bessie Banks
Ike & Tina Turner, Bob Peacock interviews, adding a review of their stage performance at EL GROTTO CLUB Ilford, Essex.
Bobby Wells - Let's Copp A Groove - pic & advert from Beacon.
Dells - a stunning full page photo.
Soul Charts, new release reviews of 45s and albums
President Records present a full page advert for new release Soul albums, today considered highly collectable and rare

Without question, with a ton of bias from me, the best of all the early A5 Blues & Soul's and only our 3rd copy for auction in twenty years!

Condition Report

Condition is a remarkable mint minus, some soft signs of storage, but crisp and clean throughout, no flaws.
